I may have gone a little crazy with the glows but what the hell, it was fun. Here’s my sketch for the next in the activity:

Gabba gabba hey.

So for starters here’s a little something I did for the Character Tag Team activity at Unit 16 again. After CamdenLikesGreen’s hedgehog sketch.

Forgot to add an apron and a hat, though.

I’ve been playing with the idea of setting up a scene in DAZ Studio and using a render as a reference for an illustration but haven’t gotten around to doing so until now. This time I did, however, and it really worked in my advantage regarding speed and probably outcome too. Much less thinking involved when it came to perspective, foreshortening and shading – even though this still just a sketch and a bit funky in places.

In case you don’t happen to know what DAZ Studio is, it is much like the better know Poser except that it’s FREE. You just need to register (again, for free) at the DAZ website, and you’ll be able to download your own copy. There’s a ton of free content available – including figures, clothing, hair, props – in sites like Renderosity.com or ShareCG.com as well as DAZ’s own website – because for the most part DS uses the same files as Poser.

Essentially what you do with DS is clothe and pose a figure, possibly include some props, add lighting and then render the scene. It’s like a “virtual photo studio”. It’s easy to use and good fun actually, I’ve ended up wasting spending a lot of time playing around with learning the program myself.

I played a bit with the thought of “What if Harmonica had instead been called… Banjo?”

So inspired by the myriad of expressions mastered by David Caruso, this is what I came up with for this round of the Character Tag Team after Sticmann’s watercolor.

So I decided to go for mood instead. Maybe young Grace Kelly getting a brief glimpse at the crystal ball – and her eventual fate.

I opted to go for a more practical, “realistic” design rather than the typical top-heavy spiked heels and microskirt type of designs you often see in superhero comics.

Didn’t even realize that Hulk is a Marvel character until I’d already finished the piece. Oh well, same difference.

I didn’t really like these children’s fantasy movies as a kid, and don’t like ‘em now. So this is what I came up with:

It’s a reference to one of the lines in the movie. I think I could use some educating like that myself…

And the second one is a take on Scott Vanden Bosch’s character. I thought it (my take, that is) was a bit stupid* and unfunny*, so I haven’t posted it until now.

And a thong.

“Shoot like a Pornstar?”

Well, hell yeah!

In fact I did two versions of the illustration since I couldn’t decide which one I like best.

Second one is referring to a famous quote by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon:

Whoever lays his hand on me to govern me is a usurper and tyrant, and I declare him my enemy.

Oh wow, don’t go over the top with those dreams man! A little depressing but, still, I found it oddly funny since I was acting so true to form, being caught off-guard.

I was drawing an hourly comic (a day late) but it was really boring to do when you have nothing else to do but sit by yourself with your leg propped up. This strip was part of that thing…

Honestly, the message didn’t even have a link anywhere and the only indication of what the point could have been was the sender’s address which linked to a project that apparently happened in year 2000. Go figure…

Here she is modeling the hottest of the hot in fashion for Fall 2008! Perfect for every body type and occasion! Wow!

Initially this just supposed to be a stylized self-portrait for a forum activity, but then it occurred to me that with minor adjustments it would fit another activity too: Japanese Giant Monsters at U16! Better to look like a silly giant than some lame-ass pop punk promo picture.

Swiped the photo for the quick montage from Satyendra.

I imagine she likes to sit down with a nice, hot cup of fermented rowan berry juice to keep the cold, bitterly lonely winter away.

I’ve had some syndication feed trouble since I updated to Wordpress 2.5.1. Sorry about that, I hope it works now.

I got me some new markers and a decent brush pen. This sketch was inked and shaded (in grayscale) with them and then colored in Photoshop.

Here’s a few designs for U16’s “The Many Faces of Spaceman Mini” activity. Winner of the acitivity gets a Spaceman Mini of his or her own, so take part. I suspect it’s going to be a bloody battle though…

The first one is based on my old spaceman design from a previous post.

And these two are just a little kinky. I don’t think they’ll be going into mass production. I might do a couple more, maybe.

And my sketch for the next in line… Consider this a preliminary sketch for another project to come.

Inspired by a girl I see smoking outside my window every work day. She always looks like she’s freezing her skinny ass off getting her regular dose of nicotine and tar.

Did this for Unit 16’s Western Activity, but it also fits Illustration Friday’s theme for this week: "Pet peeves." How convenient! Not my pet peeve, but then again pretty much all public, indoor spaces in Finland are smoke-free these days.

So here’s a couple for U16’s Character Tag Team activity. First one is based on Gavin Mouldey’s sketch. And the second is my sketch for the next in line.

This Valentines day card was done for the Stylus Art Collective’s “Filthy Valentines” challenge. You can find a printable PDF and emailable version of the card at Stylus blog along with the rest of the dirty, dirty Valentine’s day cards. Some of them are probably not safe for work…

… but shouldn’t you working instead of surfing anyways.

As you can tell, one of them is a little hyperactive.

Psychologist Dr. Alice Anderson has always been empathic, able to perceive the slightest changes in her patients. However, a terrible accident caused her to lose the ability to feel emotion. Instead, she gained the ability to modulate the neurotransmitters of other people; the control over emotion, pleasure, pain, and even death itself.

Here’s she is, instilling guilt without feeling any.

This was the sales pitch:

She was young, he wouldn’t take no for an answer. What began as harmless flirt, quickly descended into madness and sexual decadence of touching the inappropriate places. She had to do it, she had to cut herself loose before her precious hoo-ha would be breached!

Everyone thought she was crazy.  In fear of her hurting herself more they put her away. But she didn’t mind the rubber room. At least she was free of him now. And beautiful new life waited her outside, when she was deemed sane again.

And she wasn’t crazy. But no one expect her knew that. No one knew… until her doctor was accidentally killed by multiple stab wounds and was replaced by a handsome, young and passionate colleague….

This was done for U16’s "CTT – Turbo Mode" activity and the initial sketch is by DamselinDistress.

Actually Skeletor is the main star here – or Aviator General Skeletor as I dubbed him with the redesign. The shoulder pads and the crotch piece of the original design reminded me of feathers, so I went for a bird motif. Conveniently, with a different name and color scheme he could well fit in another story as well. I imagine the world the MOTUs would live in would be a mixture of the Napoleonic era, WWI, magic and weird gizmos.

And then there’s He-Man. He was kind of dragging himself along with the Skeletor design, but as you can tell he’s still slightly sketchy.

He’s hard to make look cool or charismatic like the leading man should be, considering the original design basically comprises of steroid muscles; sissy looking hair style from the Middle ages; S&M armor and solarium tan. He’s like Conan’s uncool, Californian little brother without any personality. I don’t know if my version feels any more like a person, but at least he’s wearing pants now. It’s way difficult to look noteworthy (well, in a good way anyway) when everyone else is properly dressed and you’re running around in your panties.

Scifi isn’t exactly my forte, but I think the exoskeleton dude turned out alright, for a silly, impractical design. Eat your heart out, Shirow!
