Pirate Sketches

I’ve been dying to try out Manga Studio because of all the good things I keep hearing about it. It was a bitch to set up, but I finally, finally succeeded after some completely stupid tweaking with the user accounts on my Windows XP. Three hoorays for both Microsoft and e frontier!Because I don’t know which to blame, I’ll blame ’em both.

I have to say that Manga Studio is pretty sweet, though. The drawing and inking capabilities are really impressive – very smooth, pleasurable and fast as hell. Working in 1200dpi is no problem at all, while Photoshop would completely choke on the same image. It was an easy transition from PS too, even though I’ve just managed to try it out with some quick pirate sketches, done straight in "ink".

Teemu, those are great sketches for your first experiments with the program! Do you think you will be using it for your illustration work?

Thanks, Owen! Drawing in MS is definitely really pleasant. It’s nice to be able to do the same kind of instant sketching that I do with pen in my sketchbook – except with the luxury of line-weights and undo:)

I’ll have to dabble around a bit more to get to know the program and see how easily colored stuff can be done and if I can get some crungier strokes and textures as well.
